Gecko Smiles
At IAPS, I bought a trial pack of UArt Dark and some Richeson pastels, which I hand-picked in gray tones to offset the many bright pastels I already had. Wishing to experiment, I decided to sketch a portrait of my son's leopard gecko, which I had been pet-sitting for a year. This funny creature named Cocoa actually liked me, and would smile at me daily. Who ever thought I would have a relationship with a reptile? I really enjoyed the direct application of the pastels on the dark sanded surface, and loved seeing how the colors reacted differently from the light substrates!
