At our house, the windows are always full of cats watching the world go by. Wait, what was that? Was that a mouse? A bird? Did you see it?

This small painting shows three of our rescues on their favorite perch. The lean of the tower was caused by how much it has been used over the years. A line drawing was created in charcoal and a first layer of pastel helped identify darks and lights. I don't work from dark to light as many artists due. I try to identify both from the start. It helps me preserve my line drawing which acts as my framework. Softer pastels are used with some refining with pencils. This back-and-forth continues until the piece is finished.
