View of the Port of Hamburg in Ice and Snow

I currently work on a series of cityscapes showing the German town of Hamburg in ice and snow. In this painting, I primarily used Sennelier and Schmincke pastels and some harder Nupastels on white Pastelmat. I used a pastel wash (using Schmincke and Sennelier pastels) as underground. My series is based on and inspired by a couple of photos that I took in winter 2010/2011. When using my own photo references, I love the artist’s freedom to transform reality, to adjust color choices and the overall composition to create an exciting painting.
