January on the Bitterroot
I went on a photo shoot following an air inversion that lasted for 10 days. The hoar frost continued to build during those days and then the weather report came out that we were to have sunshine. I knew the thick frost on trees wouldn't last long once the sun came out, so I ventured out quickly and visited all of my favorite locations to paint. The morning sunlight on the frost covered trees was magical and the reflections in the water sublime. I have painted this area with oil paint and watercolor, but wanted to challenge myself with pastel. I have been experimenting with adding more texture with using ArtSpectrum Colourfix Pastel ground over a sheet of sanded Wallis paper that I had mounted to Gatorboard
