Unfettered

The fence attracted me in this landscape - it's deteriorated state and the fact that it was open-ended; it could no longer restrain anything. The pathway led to the sun. Both spoke to me of freedom. The great amount of surface space that was in shade challenged me to describe what was in it, without creating an overpowering darkness. I applied a very warm, chromatic alcohol wash as an underpainting that was retained in parts of the sky. Developing subtleties within dominant values is a discipline that I am currently exploring through my work.
