Tumble of Heat
With my own photo reference, I wanted to portray the sense of cool shade that I felt in the late afternoon of a hot day. Including just a sense of fine steam rising on the path was another way to suggest this, besides the contrast of hue and value contrasts. I began with a water wash over hard pastels on Lux Archival. Layers of soft pastels were built over that. I could do many more paintings of this same scene and always achieve a different effect.
