Entrance, Toft Point
Tree shade and slashes of sun seemed to beckon me onto the trail, as well as, later, onto the easel. It became a technical challenge to represent objects in the shade that softly transitioned to light. A hard pastel underpainting was applied to a repurposed sheet of UArt 400, and then brushed with distilled water. I alternated hard and soft pastels in layers on top. Scumbling created the texture of crushed rock in the foreground. I hope to continue this study with future paintings that represent some of the beautiful images beyond the entrance.
